On February 10th, 2018 at 1524 Napoleon Fire & Rescue was dispatched for a car on fire inside a garage. Upon arrival the crews encountered a well involved structure fire. Engine 811 had heavy smoke and fire that was coming out of the rear of the structure. The crew entered “Transitional Attack” mode. This means the crew applied water from the exterior before attempting to make an interior attack. The fire quickly made it to the attic space and first floor area of the house attached to the garage. There were a lot of hotspots that were taken care of and extensive overhaul that was completed. Salvage was performed, and some items were removed for the occupants.
Napoleon Fire & Rescue was assisted on scene by Ridgeville Fire, Liberty Fire, Wauseon Fire, Henry County Sherriff, Napoleon Police, Operations, Water, and Electric departments.
A full investigation of the fire will be performed by The State Fire Marshalls office and the cause remains under investigation at this time.
Crews were on scene for approximately six (6) hours and used approximately 32,700 gallons of water. All water had to be hauled in because there are no hydrants close by. There was extensive damage to the structure and the interior contents. The estimated dollar loss is $88,000. The structure was not occupied at the time of the fire. There was one person checked out on scene but was not transported to hospital.
