FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Contact: Chief O’Brien

Napoleon Fire Department- 419-592-0441

906 Lumbard Street Fire

6/20/2020

Fire crews responded to a report of an occupied structure fire at 1:58 pm on 6/19/2020.  On arrival initial responders found heavy fire, multiple victims, and nearby homes at risk.  The initial crew attempted to perform a rescue of a victim reported to be inside of the structure.  The crew advanced through heavy smoke and intense fire conditions and were able to search much of the rear of the structure.  Due to extreme heat and smoke the remainder of the front of the building was deemed untenable conditions and crews focused on treatment and transport of victims and fire control. The fire was controlled in under one hour and three victims were transported from the scene.  Two of which were transported by air ambulance to other area hospitals.  Once the fire was controlled, we located a 4th victim within the structure.  The Henry County Coroner and State Fire Marshall investigator were on scene to perform the fire investigation and assist with victim recovery.  At this time the fire is still under investigation by the State Fire Marshall’s Office.  An estimated 14,000 gallons of water was used to control the fire and there were no firefighter injuries reported.

Assisting at the fire were Ridgeville Township Volunteer Fire Department, Liberty-Washington Township Fire and Rescue, Monroe Township Fire Department, Florida-Flatrock Volunteer Fire Department, Holgate Volunteer Fire Department, Damascus Township Volunteer Fire Department, Henry County Sherriff’s Department, Napoleon Police Department, Napoleon Operations Department, Napoleon Electric Department, and Ohio Gas Company.  All crews were clear of the scene by 8:07 pm.

Napoleon Fire and Rescue would like to ask residents to develop and practice their home fire escape plan.  If you do not know where to start please reach out to Napoleon Fire and Rescue at 419-592-0441 Ext. 1 or visit www.napoleonfire.com/safety/ for home fire safety resources.
